Mokumokuren

Mokumokuren is the writer and illustrator of "The Summer Hikaru Died," a manga series that began serialization in August 2021 on Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace Up website. The series has gained significant popularity, with the first volume selling 200,000 copies in three months and receiving critical praise for its story, artwork, and characters. Mokumokuren first conceived of the series while studying for exams and later began posting drawings on Twitter, which led to the Young Ace Up editorial department approaching Mokumokuren to serialize the manga. The series has been licensed in English by Yen Press and has an anime adaptation in the works, set to premiere in Q3 2025. Mokumokuren is known for their horror manga style and is a fan of action manga from Weekly Shōnen Jump and Weekly Young Jump, particularly "Tokyo Ghoul". They credit the horror movie "Shin Mimibukuro" as one of their main inspirations, along with "It Comes" and the novels "Bogiwan ga Kuru" and "Shishiriba no Ie" by Ichi Sawamura.
