Step into Joseph Heller's brilliant and darkly comedic world as he takes you on a journey through military madness and the desperate struggle for survival. Set in the closing months of World War II, the story follows Yossarian, a member of an American bomber squadron stationed off the coast of Italy. Each flight mission brings him face to face with a relentless enemy determined to end his life.

But it's not just the enemy above that threatens Yossarian's existence. The true challenge lies within his own army, which is relentlessly pushing him to fly more dangerous missions. Caught in the absurdity of war and the maddening "Catch-22" - a paradoxical situation with no way out - Yossarian finds himself trapped with no possibility of escape.

Heller's novel is a powerful satire on the irrationality of war and the bureaucratic insanity that pervades military life. With a perfect blend of humor and tragedy, "Catch-22" is hailed as one of the greatest satirical works in the English language. Prepare to be captivated by this timeless and thought-provoking tale that sheds light on the human condition and the absurdity of war.

Joseph Heller was born in 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. He served as a bombardier in the Second World War and then attended New York University and Columbia University and then Oxford, the last on a Fullbright scholarship. He then taught for two years at Pennsylvania State University, before returning to New York, where he began a successful career in the advertising departments of Time, Look and McCall's magazines. It was during this time that he had the idea for Catch-22. Working on the novel in spare moments and evenings at home, it took him eight years to complete and was first published in 1961. His second novel, Something Happened was published in 1974, Good As Gold in 1979 and Closing Time in 1994. He is also the author of the play We Bombed in New Haven.
