"Bhagavad-gita As It Is" is a widely popular edition of the Bhagavad-gita, an ancient scripture from India. Translated and explained by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, this edition has gained significant recognition in the Western world for its approach to presenting the teachings of the Gita.

The Bhagavad-gita is a sacred text that delves into five fundamental truths and their interconnectedness: Krishna (God), the individual soul, the material world, actions in this world, and time. It offers profound insights into the nature of consciousness, the self, and the universe. Throughout its verses, the Gita imparts India's spiritual wisdom and provides answers to age-old philosophical questions.

The essence of the Gita is conveyed through a conversation between Krishna and His friend Arjuna. The dialogue takes place on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, where Arjuna is filled with doubt and confusion about his duty in the upcoming battle between relatives and friends. Krishna guides Arjuna, leading him from perplexity to spiritual enlightenment.

In his translation, Prabhupada remains true to the original meaning of Krishna's words, offering readers an opportunity for self-improvement and spiritual fulfillment. The book is described as alive with knowledge and devotion, capable of transforming lives positively.

"Bhagavad-gita As It Is" has been praised for its clear and accessible presentation of complex spiritual concepts, making it a widely sought-after edition for both spiritual seekers and scholars interested in the wisdom of the Gita.

Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, also known as Srila Prabhupada, was a renowned spiritual teacher and the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), which is widely known as the "Hare Krishna movement." He was born on September 1, 1896, and passed away on November 14, 1977. Srila Prabhupada is highly regarded by followers of ISKCON as a representative and messenger of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a 16th-century Indian saint and spiritual leader who emphasized the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra as a means to achieve spiritual enlightenment and devotion. In 1965, at the age of 69, Srila Prabhupada journeyed from India to the United States with the mission of spreading the teachings of Krishna consciousness to the Western world. Despite facing numerous challenges, he successfully established the first ISKCON temple in New York City and gradually expanded the movement globally. Under Srila Prabhupada's guidance, ISKCON grew into a significant global spiritual organization with numerous temples, communities, and followers around the world. He translated and wrote numerous books on Vedic scriptures, including the Bhagavad Gita, which became highly regarded in the spiritual and academic communities. Throughout his life, Srila Prabhupada traveled extensively, giving lectures, conducting ceremonies, and providing spiritual guidance to his disciples and followers. Even after his departure, Srila Prabhupada's influence and teachings continue to inspire millions of people worldwide to embrace the practice of Krishna consciousness and lead a life centered on spiritual values and devotion. His legacy lives on through ISKCON and the continued propagation of his teachings by his disciples and followers.
